I was a little reflective this morning, a Thursday.
It was garbage day, and somehow it’s past the middle of September and 90 degrees outside. We are getting one last blast of summer here in Chicago before fall hits, and before you know it, winter. Blah.
Normally my car is parked in our garage, which is nice. Most of our neighbors use their garages as self-storage, relegating their cars to the elements through all four seasons. Not us. Our vehicles are safe from the elements so there is no clearing of snow, no dewy vehicles, but not this morning for me.
Nope, we have a pile of crap in our driveway right in front of my side. It’s necessary crap for about a week, but it necessitates my keeping my car outside. This morning my car was dewy. I sing!
What feature of the iPhone X will make you want to buy it?
I have my theory, and I fully explore it in today’s song. Sure, the thing has a good looking OLED screen, wireless charging, cool camera, and no more home button. It’s also got the facial recognition. There is one reason you will want this phone, especially if you have the mindset of a 12-year-old like my wife says I do.
I was doing that this morning, sort of thinking about the Steve Jobs quote about looking in the mirror, but also just looking out the window. Sometimes it’s good to think about how your life is and where it is going.
Yes, I admit, I have to figure out how to make the day specific songs a little more prompt.
This song, for example, is about Monday, only today is Tuesday when I’m posting it because, well, I had lots to do yesterday and didn’t get a chance. I know that’s an excuse, I probably could have squeezed it in somewhere, but in any case it’s a Monday song, posted on a Tuesday.
For me Thursday was very confusing, and I was kind of bummed. I wanted it to be garbage day, but it wasn’t, and the weather couldn’t figure out whether or not it wanted to be sunny or cloudy. The Thursday portion of this song is gloomy.
Then came Friday!
Garbage day shifted to Friday because of the holiday, it was cloudy and I didn’t care, and even though there was extra garbage, now we have super-clean cans for the weekend! Ain’t life faaannnntastic!
My wife said something to the effect that it would suck coming home smelling like dog treats, referring to the people who work in the packing plant where Milo’s dog treats are made. I said we should be grateful for them, and their smelliness, as they are the people who keep Milo happy when we leave the house.
Fact of the matter is that I don’t even know if the people who work in the packing plant even have a chance to smell like the dog treats because I’m guessing everything is fairly sealed and sanitary. In any case, though, I’m grateful for them, and Milo is, too! I can tell because he spins around!
I was thinking the other day how much the iPhone has changed things. Just ten years ago you couldn’t easily do things like see a map in the palm of your hand, figure out what time sunset was, or even find out what a cuterebra is. Go ahead. Look it up. The song can wait.
Now that you are grossed out, just think that a decade ago it was a pain to do these things. You needed those giant dictionaries, or a set of encyclopaedia, or an atlas. Not today. Grab your phone, take a pictures of a sunset, and find the person you love. I did.
The other night my wife and I were enjoying an evening on our patio. It was a lovely evening, the bugs were singing, Milo, our dog, was trying to roll in poop or something, and then she saw him, or maybe her, about four backyards away. At first she thought it was a dog, but then she yelled at me “There’s a skunk!”
She pointed across the backyards for me to see, and at first I didn’t see it. Then, there was the white stripe, we had some talk about skunk poop, and the skunk kept coming closer.
Then I started singing.
Low and behold the skunk started running away, my wife made fun of me that my singing was skunk repellent, and unfortunately I couldn’t keep singing for the entire night so the skunk came back.
No need for mothballs, just hire, me. It seems my singing is skunk repellent.
As I was getting ready to sing my song this morning to text to my wife, I had this beautiful song about sunrises. I went to start the song but then realized I would be sending it to my nephew.
Now I haven’t known this nephew that long, he being on my wife’s side, though I have a feeling he would have been confused and amused all at the same time, but I stopped. It was almost 7am and all, so I’m not sure if he would have appreciated being woken up to a text of a song about sunrises.
Then I came up with this song.
I should have just finished the song about sunrises, texted it to him, and let the chips fall where they may. I probably would have enjoyed my day a little more.
